Secretary report October - November 2017

Difficulty booking the Grey Room for our meetings has continued. A booking form was sent to me, and I sent back a completed form, but no acknowledgement has been received. Bookings are managed by Margaret Graham (of Scoosh, email magplayscoosh@aol.com) who emailed the chair saying that they need to make a charge.

Meetings, Invitations to events

1) Meeting of the residents of Carnegie Court and 186 The Pleasance in the Crags Sports Centre on October 11th.
2) EACC Meeting Thursday 12th October 2017, 7 pm, in the council chamber
3) Friday October 27th 10am Nelson Hall User Group
4) Meeting on Tuesday 31st October at 5.00 pm, to give an understanding of how we manage changes to listed buildings and conservation areas, decide on new street names, and regulations on permitted development. 5) October 30: Invitation to the Centenary Commemorations of Dr Elsie Inglis and of the Scottish Women’s Hospitals Movement at St Giles Cathedral on Wednesday 29th November at 2 pm (forwarded to chair).
6) October 30: Invitation to attend a workshop on de-cluttering our Streets on Monday 13th November at 6pm – 8pm at the City Chambers (Main Council Chambers room).

5) November 3: Email from Planning.ServiceDelivery@edinburgh.gov.uk about a CC training event on Tuesday 31 October, which mentioned that the council will set up a process to consult community councils on new street names in their areas. There will be at least 21 days for the consultation. A street naming charter can be found here along with other information.

4) October 16: Announcement of a regional workshop in Edinburgh on Thursday 23rd Nov 2017, 6.30pm to 8.30pm (venue tbc) about how community councils can be developed and enhanced to have a more transparent impact in the democratic process. The organisers are "Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC)" working with "What Works Scotland". One can register using this web site register interest.
5) October 19: Response to our enquiry about the 'policy' of removing traffic islands (file SR994385OUT-17oct17). This states that "there is no policy within the Council supporting the wholesale removal of traffic islands throughout the city", but only at ones with green man facilities (this is not consistent with what is actually the case in our area).
6) October 24 & 27: Information about Andy Wightman's campaign, ‘Homes First’, which will call for more effective regulation of short term lets, beginning on 6 November.

b. Request to email local elected representatives to seek their support for a motion by Andy Wightman concerning short-term lets (‘Homes First’, S5M-08370).

9) October 30: Notification of Proposal of Application Notice (PAN): Royal Hospital for Sick Children, from callum.fraser@holderplanning.co.uk. The proposal is for mixed use development, with houses and flats, student accommodation (by http://www.downingstudents.com/locations/edinburgh/, a company building "luxury student accommodation"), commercial use (Classes 1, 2 and 3), community use (Class 10 and 11), cycle and car parking provision, and will involve new buildings, alteration/conversion of existing buildings, and demolition of some existing buildings. The first "event" to view and comment on Downing’s proposals will be on 28th November 2017 (14.30 – 19.30) at St Catherine's Argyle Church of Scotland, 61-63 Grange Road, EH9 1TY, and the other two will be at the same times and place on 10th January and 7th February 2018.

From East Parkside Proprietors' Association

1. October 10: Photographs of new "fly posting" that has appeared on one of the (expensive!) Caithness slabs in front of the Royal Commonwealth Pool, and request for their removal.
2. October 12: Photographs of graffiti “tags” on bus shelters
3. October 11: The Autumn Newsletter from the Southside Community Council was delivered to the blocks of flats in East Parkside yesterday, but the delivery company just dumped a pile of the leaflets in the main corridor of each block of flats. Through their private e-mail system, residents in each block were asked to complete the delivery by putting one copy though each door in their block.
4. October 16: Copy of email to Alan Dunlop and others about dumped temporary traffic signs and other related stuff in and around the in Holyrood Park Road area, some of them causing hazards. As in many places, these things are left for long periods without being collected after works are done.
5. October 20: Email about provision of GP services in the Southside of Edinburgh, and specifically enquiring about the Overall assessment of GP premises for the city that we were told has been done when David White (david.white@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk) came to a recent SCC meeting.
